Thanked: 0Great Grandfather's Simmons Hardware Co No. 8 Special
Hello all! So glad this forum exists! Above is my great grandfathers razor. I want to try and get it restored for daily use! Any tips for who to look to for a good restore job at a fair price? the picture does not shw it, but the blade apears to have a small nick about midblade. Any estimates at what a blade resotration normally runs, or is it too wide a range to give accurate guesses.
Also, anyone have any information on this specific model? All my internet searches yield "Keen Kutter" information for Simmons, but this particular one does not have that logo. Thanks!
Cheers!

Welcome to SRP. Nice razor and great to have a family heirloom. Check out member services here for honing. A simple honing should get rid of the chip if it is not too large.
There was a Simmons Hardware that was not associated with Keen Kutter, or preceded them and was bought out by them. Can't remember which it was. I have one of their knives.

I've got a couple of Simmons and they are really nice shavers.
I don't yet have a Keen Kutter but here is my HDWE
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 1I guess there isn't any information on our razor, yet. I just got a Special #8 given to me with the purchase of two other razors. I haven't found anything yet but the special part is it will be ready to shave soon. It has a chip in the heel, but nothing I can't handle.
Did you find someone to refurbish your razor? Hope it will shave well.
This is my third Simmons razor. I find them to be quite a nice shave.

Thanked: 101Just picked up a No 8 Special this morning at a local antique shop. Less than $15.00. Had a small chip that I was able to work out on my Worksharp Blade Grinder. Set a new bevel with my 1K waterstone. Went to my 6K waterstone & now on my Baby Coti. My blade has No8 Special on the scales & on top of the spine. Anyone else have it on the spine? Pictures aren't to good & have done almost no cleanup yet.

I have Simmons , or a razor "Manufactured Expressly for Simmon Hardware" - back of tang mark.
I assume it's from the Pre Keen Kutter era.To deobfuscate is to convert something that is difficult to un͝d̡͝e҉͞r̴͝st̨̕a͘͢n̢̛d̕̕ ̧͝
into one that is simple, understandable and straightforward.
