    Default Maas metal polish

Hi, i'm hoping for some advise on caring for my blades.
I have a new mirrored Hart Steel 7/8 razor . After and during every shave water marks apear in patches and little spots. A touch of Maas and little effort removes them.
I also have a dovo blade that i use Maas on, to polish it and after every shave it develops some staining that takes alot of effort to remove.

Is it the Mass metal polish that is doing this to my blades?

Am i doing some thing wrong .
I appreciate any help.. mant thanks

Just water spots. Once they are removed with the polish apply some lubricant, I use silicone spray lube. Tuff Glide and it's competitors are also good choices.

I checked out that Tuff Glide. I would have to send off to America for it and i'm not sure i want that stuff on my face..
I use the razor oil i got from Hart Steel but the stains still appear after shaving.
I think its the crap water, i should shave with Evian
I have Wd40 but i think id rather send off for Tuff Glide..

i have recently been experimenting with cold water shaving so i see no need in holding it under the tap like one would with hot water to heat the blade up. after shaving the blade is barely wet so just needs a quick wipe and stropping. so you can try not wetting the blade in the first place. also are you keeping them out of the bathroom?

    JOB15,

You can get the Sentry Solutions TufCloth here in the UK from Heinnie Haynes :

Sentry Solutions: Sentry Solutions Tuf-Cloth --- Heinnie Haynes - Knives, Pocket Tools and Accessories

I have used TufGlide/TufCloth on my razors for years with absolute satisfaction. (I live in an old, cold Victorian house, a couple of hundred yards from the English Channel).

After your shave, rinse blade with hot water and dry blade. Leave razor open to fully dry for an hour or so; rub blade with TufCloth.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

If you have hard water, use distilled water during and after shaving!!!! This would include making lather!! Personally you might 'try' to just 'gently' wipe any lather off of the blade on a soft cloth during shaving and save the distilled water for rinsing for lather

If you get the MASS on the edge, you are killing that edge! It not only has very fine particles of 'grit' it also has 'chemicals' which eat at the things that you want to remove, but also eats steel!!!

There are some who welcome the 'patina' that comes with steel aging! Patina IS NOT RUST it's just the natural aging of the steel!!!!

Last and not least: Please store your blades with a light coat of oil! I like Ballistol but WD40, sewing machine oil, 3-In-One Oil would work well! Some like the vegetable oils, but they go rancid!

    I do hope this helps!!
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Soak a small rag with mineral oil. Wipe the blade before and after you shave. This should handle the water spots. Don't saturate the rag just let it absorb some oil so you can wipe a film of oil onto the blade to prevent water spots. An oiled surface cannot water spot.

    Thanks for all your advise.
I think the only sensible thing to do is nothing.
For some reason i thought the water staines would eat away at the blade and become rust, doh
I'll let nature take its course and maybe once a year ill buff them up with the Maas.
I have seen the Tuff Glide selling at Classicshaving.com and i do shop their, so i will get some but will most probably stick with the oil.
Geez, why cant they just make stainless steel razors...dont answer that
    thanks untold amounts
