All good stuff..
But no one addressed the question of where to buy and what thickness other than 3mm as a start....
I am searching for some giraffe bone as well as acrylic. I've found a source for some materials, but the sizes don't seem to be targeted at razors. It's either sheet goods or too small.. Masecraft Supply - Online Store---------------------------------------------------

I personally think Micarta is a good choice for beginners. Cheaper and easier to work with than G10. I tried making a set of acrylic scales this past week only to break them while peening the razor. Micarta on the other hand is a lot tougher and more forgiving.
