Default Slow restoration, need advice on polishing

I bought a Wostenholm pipe this summer that I think has a lot if potential. My goal is to get the razor cleaned up, make some new scales, and hopefully have someone help me pin it up and hone it at the Kansas City meetup. This is what it looked like when I bought it.

I un-pinned it and used a wire brush to get rid of rust and Maas to polish. There were some spots that remained. My question is whether steel wool would be appropriate to get the tarnish off the spine and tang? Or is that too aggressive?

Also, the Bakelite scales were broke and had been redrilled and pinned. Since I want it to the razor to look similar to the original I was considering making black horn scales and using the original lead wedge, but have also considered micarta. Can anyone steer me to a good (online but not ebay) source for raw materials?

G10 & Micarta - AKS™ Alpha Knife Supply is a good place for micarta. Masecraft for horn.

If u want to remove stuff without damaging the blade start with high grade sandpaper 2000 and up. Wool is a bit unprediktable, but good at removing rust

I have had good results using Liberon #0000 Ultra Fine steel wool and then finishing with Maas.

    Good luck with the restore.
