    Default Warped scales.

I have a "hand me down" that appears to be in good shape except that the point of the blade just touches one scale as it is closed. Is there any fix for this? I really would like to keep the cool scales on the razor.Name: IMG_20130924_052951[1].jpg

Those scales are nice, with a little cleanup and polish they will Look good as new. As far as the centering of the blade it would depend on whats causing the problem. Is the peen of the razor tight, it may be as simple as tightening up the peen, its hard to see if the scales are warped from the angle of the photo, but that also could be fixed and would be different way to achieve this depending on what type of material the scales are. If your going to send it out to some one to have her honed up which i would highly recommended then you can ask them to assess the problem at the same time.

The scales seem to be some kind of plastic. Viewing from the pivot to the wedge the left scale is straight and the right scale has all the "bow" to come into the wedge. The pins are reasonably tight.

That's a nice looking razor and scales! I highly advise sending it out to a pro to hone and for them it 'should' be a very easy fix for the blade hitting the scale all at the same time. I have a favorite restorer/honer! PM me and I'll provide you with a link!

You can simply clean that blade up with some metal polish, I prefer Mothers Mag Wheel Polish followed by some MASS.

For plastic scales try using 3M's Lens & Hard Plastic Cleaner. It does a really nice job! You can finish with either an automotive paint wax or Bumper Black (which is now hard to find) or a newer product. Here's a link to find it!
