    IIRC they show it in the DOVO video quite clearly to demonstrate the grind,, It can also be used to test for cracks BEFORE you hit the buffers...

    Second one at 2:11 He uses a lead ring instead of a thumbnail because he probably checks a hundred a day to test the grind flex..

    Do that same thing, and run the edge from heel to toe watching the flex bubble move along your thumbnail...
