    Default Another VFD thread

    Hi folks,

I have been searching and reading about variable frequency drives (VFDs) for AC motors. Now I get the principles, I think, but I am wondering if there is something as simple as a VFD that you can just plug a bench grinder or belt grinder's plug into to operate it. Or does a VFD have to be wired directly to the motor?

    As simply put as possible...

Running a non-variable motor with a variable switch will burn it up... The motor is a costly option the switch is near nothing, if the motor were variable the factory would be putting the switch on and advertising it...

Now finding a variable speed motor in the wild and making a grinder is a different story...
