    Default My First Re-pin

I thought I'd share my first re-pin. When I got this razor it had been re-pinned already. It was a pretty awful job and I had been looking for an excuse to give this a go. I found everything I needed (1/16" brass rod and #0SS Washers) at my local Ace Hardware. Enough rod and washers to re-pin dozens of razors for less than $5. Thanks to all you who provided the information needed to complete this project.

I think it came out pretty well. The only thing is, the razor doesn't close exactly center. It gets very close to the scales on one side. I don't remember if it was that way before I re-pinned.

One possibility is that you may have bent the pivot pin if you used too much force when you were peening.

When I started cleaning and do some light restore work I never considered that pinning would pose any challenge. I work well with my hands and thought it would just happen. Pinning well takes a little bit. The pin length being just right is important. I think the video by Brad Maggard was very helpful to me. I agree with Walt as well. Watch the video sorry I can't find the link for Brad's video. One from the Wikki Un-pinning and re-pinning a razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki

Pinning is the hardest part for me. Always seems to go off center. Go slowly and check alignment conctantly is the only advice I can give. I also test before pinning with 0-80 hex head bolts and nuts to see what that produces before pinning.just a hair of a degree off at the tang pin can produce a large effect at the toe.

Thanks cuda glen and charlie. Seems like the only thing I dont do is give my holes a little 'schnully' as my grandfather would say, by overdrilling the hole size. This allows for a little adjustment.

It's not hard to do but it is tedious! Drives me crazy sometimes with all the tapping.
