Default Old trick to remove rust, will it wotk for straight razor ?

Hi, I know an old trick to remove rust from cast iron. You sink the cast iron in a bucket fill with water and vinegar. After a while the rust will remove. Because the vinegar is acid you need to neutralize the cast iron by sinking it in water with baking soda to stop the process.

Is this could be working with straight razor? I am asking because I want avoid hand sanding the blade if possible.

That will remove rust for sure, but the blade will be real ugly.

At This point in time.... my catch phrase

Just about every type of rust remover chemical and scheme has been tested on straight razors, from Potatoes to Electrolysis and everything in between, every Jelly and Solution, some are downright harmful, some do nothing, many remove the rust, but leave a residue that must be sanded or buffed off anyway, so why not just do that and save money and time

What I am saying is that if you search through this section you will find all kinds of threads on Vinegar and everything else but not one has given clean bright steel like sanding or buffing yields so they have been left behind...

"I am asking because I want avoid hand sanding the blade if possible." - So does everyone else, but to get clean bright steel you either Hand sand or learn to buff.. There really is no "Easy Way"

The real issue is that on many of the blades even if you could magically remove all the Corrosion you are going to be left with pits and those need to be taken out...

Very good answer, Thank you. I think I will have to learn how to buff.
