Thanked: 0Worth Restoring? (PICS)
Hi, Yesterday I bought 3 razors and I want to know if it worth to be restored. I don't know if I got rip off. It is my first buy and I don't know if I did good. Let me know what you guys think.
#1 : Wade and butcher, wedge, silversteel
#2 : Wade and butcher, hollow (or full hollow, not sure), with a crack in the blade.
#3 : Landers Prary & Clark, Conqueror
#4 : Collins de luxe (I bought this one on ebay a while ago)
#5 : Utica (someone gave it to me)
I am a llittle bit nervous about the 3 I bought yesterday because I am not sure if they can be restored.

Thanked: 13249From the pics
1. yes but quite a bit of spine wear
2. No it looks like it is cracked which requires a Modification to make it shave
3. Yes
4. Yes
5. Yes
When I say Yes that means they should be able to be made Shave ready, whether you restore farther then that point is a question that only you, your time, your skills, or your wallet can answer

Thanked: 0How much do you think it could cost me to get the #2 restored by someone? My skill are not so great I am new to the restoring thing and cutting the razor is way over my skill.

Thanked: 13249We don't do prices on the forum
In the classifieds is the member service section send out some e-mails and PM's, many of us would be happy to quote services..
Honestly however unless that razor is special to you a Mod and Restore will be more then the ending value of the razor will be... JMHOLast edited by gssixgun; 10-24-2013 at 04:47 PM.

Thanked: 118Gary is right. As a general rule purchasing a vintage razor and paying for a restore puts the price very close to or over the price of purchasing most brand new razors. However if there is no serious problems (chips, cracks, deep rust, broken or severely warped scales) you CAN clean them up yourself and they may well be worth sending out for honing. That may be worth it to you.
I started this hobby knowing full well, that I would have to do the restores and honing myself to get a restored vintage razor at a reasonable price.
Why not clean up #1 yourself and send it for honing. Depending on how deep the crack is on #2, if it's over 1/4 inch, you can attempt restoring it yourself. Later decide if you want to restore the others later.
Just my $0.02.
