New wood scales- Should I keep the microfasteners on for a while or pin now?
So as the thread title states I am finishing some wood scales (ASH with tung oil) There not done but will be soon. So will wooden scales need future adjustments: near future adjustments not long term stuff.
Am I over thinking this and should I just pin the thing when I'm ready?"The blade must always be respected"

Thanked: 13245Just to make sure I am reading it right
Once the scales are done and dry, then check final fit using the Microbolts with everything (Bearing Washers) in place and lined up..
If it all functions correctly then pin it up..
Honestly once I think it is done when doing wood scales and wet finishes, I usually wait 24 hours before I pin...

Thanked: 2027I do not work with wood for scales, but I work with scale materials that can move on you after being worked, bone, ivory, horn,
Even a couple tho movement can destroy your perfect fit.
My intent is to pin when I am done and lock all in it's final place.
Your blade my take a set to the microfasteners that my not work with your final pinnings.
With a perfect blade I have never had a problem getting a blade centered again just by more peening after any scale movement.

There's a theory that says when you think the pivot is tight then carry on a little more. My preference is to stop when it feels ok, go to the hones and then I generally find it needs a little more tightening. Only then do I carry out the final polishing.
