That is a great idea, indeed! I'll see if one day I'll make one myself, if I have a "special" key or something.

Pi3 nice tie in you avatar. Before I retired I'd have gone actively looking for one like it. Haven't worn a tie in a year now and it's great!
Heespharm you may have started a short trend here. I know I'm working out the details for one myself as well as thinking about how small a key I can realistically make scales for - luggage key maybe? It's the tang that gets me laughing every time I see it.

Thanked: 61Haha I don't post here a lot mostly at other shaving forums but I lurk here daily... But I had to share... All my employees want one now even though they can care less at the pics of the razors I restore..
I'm thinking of making some hart steel-like scales for my mailbox key.. Should be fun

One mailbox key coming up....
Here we have a restored swayback mailbox key that I finished today. Made from brass, it measures a full 1.5 inches long from tip of tang to the toe end of the scale. The lock interaction area is a full 1/2 inch. It was in decent shape when I got it but I had to work the tang a bit for it to all look right. The "cutting area" is 3/16 wide so it's a real chopper for mailbox keys.
Scales are Lignum Vitae, wedge is Gabon Ebony, and the hardware is silver nickel. It was all finished in beeswax (hence the dust sticking to it). You know, this was fun! Don't think I'll do it again but it was a blast to do.
It's nowhere near the quality of your scales but this one's so damned small! The giant scales it's sitting on are actually normal size and they're my current real project.

It just occurred to me that I may have just violated some federal rule or law. OK it's a suitcase key - yeah sure that's it!

it got the better of me
here's another to add the collection, I tried to keep the size proportions close to Original
Strey - Brass
Scales - 1 piece unicorn horn (Teflon) the wedge area is cut on an angle so the Strey stops on it & doesn't spin through
Pin etc - brass pin, no external washers, brass thrust washer (mainly to take up the gap of the cutting disc used)
