Thread: Has anybody used tin on their razors?

It's corrosion resistant , polishes well... Are there any problems using tin to line the scales

I've heard that metal in general is rare for straight razors. Its weight causes difficulties when stropping or honing, but I don't have any experience in that matter.

As Amenrab mentioned, it throws off the balance of the razor when you are shaving. There is no "rule" as to what you must use for scales & any sort of metal would strengthen the scales as long as your adhesive worked well. I've used brass sheeting that was about as thin as a pop can metal and it changed the balance so much that I replaced the scales. Try it & see if you like it...

Tin is pretty light compared to other metals so give it a shot. You may not like the look though - but I think it may rust pretty easily unless it's had some treatment (thinking about old tin cans). If you go for it post some pix.

Hehe, tin cans are made of steel.
Actually don't know if they've ever been made out of tin, tin brazed, tin / lead solder they had tho.
Lead was a hit n miss in food related stuff.

Pure tin is really soft but if you add some Antimony it gets usable.
It will get your hands dirty as soon as you hold it, not as bad as lead but sort of the same, so keep it away from white shirts.
