Cool Beginning Restoration Tip: December 2013

So taking a few minutes to sit down and craft another Beginning Restoration Tip

This is the #1 rule of restore several of us back in the old Chat Cave Days were kicking back one night and came up with this one..

"Rush a Restore, Wreck a Razor"

Basically this simply means take your time to plan out your work, look closely at what the razor is showing you it is actually going to be leading your work.
Look at the steel, what do you have going there. What tools are you planning on using to do the work. What safety equipment are you going to have to use to make sure you have 10 fingers and 2 eyes when you are done ..
What about Chemicals, ie: polish, cleaner, penetrating oil,
What about Tools, have you got the things it is going to take to disassemble and re-assemble the razor.
What about parts, Lock washers, Pinning rod or pins, bearing, washers, wedge,

See most issues arise when you are halfway through a part of the project and you don't have the right tool or have enough time so the thought hits your brain "Oh heck no big deal I can do this anyway" that is right about the time something goes drastically wrong.

The #1 rule can also apply to simple things like the finish on the steel or the scales, say you are hand sanding and you just know that out haven't taken out all the pits or perhaps all the scratches from the last stage, but you start to rush "Oh heck I'll catch it on the next piece of sandpaper" Well you know what happens right ?? when you get halfway through that next stage is when you find the mistake that rushing got you on the last stage

I heard it put very well earlier by Lawson Stone on here.. "Rushing through is like missing the first hole when lacing your shoes, no matter what you do, ultimately you are going to have to go back and put the lace though that first hole to get it right

Make the restore fun, take your time and enjoy the entire process I swear the results will show in the end

    Now go restore a razor

Wishing You and Yours a Merry Christmas, and a Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise, New Year!!!!
