I honed with a layer of tape. I'm in New Mexico. Bigspendur has offered to show me a thing or two, but my work schedule is so busy that I haven't had time to take him up on the offer.

Take it! When you have the time. Its a great way to get sorted out! Im thinking of moving there just to get some tips from him! LOL. Good luck!
Take him up on it...whatcha waiting for?
A week when I don't have to put in 5 11 hr. days and 8 hrs. on the weekend. Combine that with needing time for sleep and a home life, it's just hard to squeeze anything else in.
Wedges with spine issues are by no means a simple hone...
I said this a few times "People like to make honing sound really easy and it is, right up until it isn't"
A pic of the razor would help, but honestly the best advice so far is already in this thread,,,
Set the razor aside until one of two things happens, You meet with Nelson, or you sort through enough honing issues over time to get through this one...
A pic really would help to get an idea of how bad the Edge vs Spine geometry is though
I just did a post on this subject recently.
When you are talking wedge and uneven wear on the spine, there is a good chance that you have not really set the bevel with the DMT and going to the 1K at that point will not help anything. If you have a loupe or microscope, take a look at the bevel and make sure that both sides of the bevel are flat from the top, all the way down to the edge. The top may reflect the uneven wear on the spine, but not matter so long as you get both sides of the bevel flat. Many times on these kinds of razors you will have one side flat and not the other and it seems like you are getting there, but you really are not and may have to work on one side more.
Having Nelson willing to help you out is a huge benefit, particularly if you are going to take on this kind of razor.
Have fun.
