Joe, you might want to cruise on over to Robert William's site. Two of mine are in Giraffe bone, but He's done mammoth, and prob. the most rare - Narwhale tusk. His Gallery link: Home - customstraightrazors.com enjoy. 'Serious eye candy. and fwiw, no razors I have hold an edge as well.

Joe I was thinking about trying to snag that at auction so as to prevent any member here from having to deal with it. A little known fact about that particular blade is that a well studied dictator used it and it's rumored to be cursed. The story goes that he sliced himself with it the morning he took his own life and his blood somehow worked into the scales and blade. Seems at times, while the unsuspecting user is shaving, his spirit jumps into it and the razor jumps out of the user's hand and slices him mercilessly. Now I'm a compassionate man, and am willing to dispose of it at no cost - simply PM me for my address and send it to me immediately for a proper exorcism and disposal. Pay no attention to any posts that may appear to show that blade in the future - and forget everything you remember about it.

Seriously nice looking blade! Good luck with the rescale and post pics.

The spirit and I hit it off well. Though the razor is still boxed and wrapped under my tree, I have cleared out a space in my attic for the apparition To settle in. We have set clear boundries- he can eat my food an drive my car- but it my razor- he's cool with that.... And oddly enough, so am I.

Very nice razor! I was watching that one as well and bowed out before bidding. I was hoping someone here was the lucky winner. I can't wait to see that restored. Enjoy !

After thinking about this I might want to hold off in the mammoth experiments gor this one . When I dream of what it looks like when it's done I keep on envisioning musk ox- any ideas where I can come about a 6" piece? Also is the horn tip similar to the bumps?

You cannot find MO burl anymore,if you do it would cost about $350 to make a set of scales.

Ouch. I'm still keeping an eye out, but I'm already pretty deep into the blade for a vintage- so that's prob just a *bit* outta my budget.

Guess I gotta keep my options open.
I think I would feel better at like $100-150 for the material. At the end of the day there's alot of awesome natural materials out there with in that price range- I know nobody out there appreciates natural materials like you do.... I guess we'll see where this one takes me.

More pics to follow next week
