This one is also a very thin hollow grind for the era. As best as I can figure, the lack of "& SONS" on the tang dates them pre 1856ish. Attachment 252111

Wow. I had presumed because they are so thin that they were either newer or reground. They are sounding more special all the time. Mine is currently running in the vibrating tumbler. I will get it out in a couple of days and show it too. It looks pretty close to yours.
Finished up the red tip gillette, ended up doing 2 coats, pretty pleased with the way it turned out. Shaved this morning using 7am platinums, they seem to be really easy to shave with, very smooth but not the closest shave Ive gotten from DE`s.

Edit paint job is much better in person, seems the flash makes it look uneven
Looks like new,Alan.
Good save!.
Going to see how this Russian blade responds to the bevel hone....Attachment 252133
Did a blade swap tonite.
A damn good friend sent me a replacement blade for my two day W&B set. The original wedge needs a lot of work, so he offered this one in its place.
It ended up being a bit longer from pivot, to toe. And a 1/8" wider, and a 1/2- full hollow. Can't complain about that.!! So I had to do a complete tear down, thin, and shorten the wedge, pin it w/micro screws, and find out its off center in the scales. Un pin the blade, check it on a flat surface...show side of blade isn't making contact at the pivot. (A bit over ground at the plant, probably after lunch at the local pub) but got it shimmed just right. Pinned it back up with the original domes I made, and ready for the rocks.
I'll clean the pins up after honing, in case they come loose and need retightening.

Thanks Tom, BTW...I Gotter Packed in thar. Toe and heal are 1/8" from sticking out the scales.

I got a couple more off the wall today and cleaned up another. It is starting to look like I have a lot of honing ahead of me. I also cleaned up these black horn scales for one that will be coming down soon. I still have 1/2 dozen hanging on the job board.
Nice work Mike. Sometimes you just got to make em fit. Get the shoe horn.
Redfisher, what are you using for a bevel setting hone?
Allan that red is looking swell.
