There's about 8 kitchen knives on my workbench, needing HT. And there are 3 HTed and tempered razors waiting to be ground.
1 special project razor waiting for scales. And some half finished fruit knives.
Putting the finishing touches on a pair of custom monogrammed aluminum scaled Robeson 1545's that I picked up cheap.

So pretty busy at the moment you might say.
Best ruler ever Shaggy
Thanks, my daughter feels the same ;)
Just got done buying some material to put together 2 razors I've had sitting here for a while. One is a 7/8 Crown & Sword ERN and the other is a 13/16 Frederick Reynolds, faux frameback. I really want to get these two shaving. I get antsy just looking at them. I Purchased some Buckeye burl for the FR scales, along with some Baltic amber to make a wedge from. The ERN will be getting some light cream colored Micarta, and I'm going to try my hand at making a Jade wedge for it. Should be a nice challenge for both.
P.S.
Barberologist, Timberland pro work boots are the only boots I wear anymore. They're just so comfy and last forever!!!
Just doing a resto/clean-up on a Towa frameback.

Working on my first restore at the moment, it's a F. Reynolds wedge that I cleaned up, and I'm working on the scales now, g-10 and recon stone. I had a question, what do you use to polish up g-10 after sanding? Which compounds or polishes work best either by hand or by Dremel? Thanks!

I am working on my second straight razor to date. First one I had to send to get honed, I had my first shave with my razor the other day and it worked great. Honed it myself. Now for some scales.
Gotta final grind & handle 5 knives.
Ordered some expensive stuff today, but fun nonetheless ;)
Dutchi 230v, 1440rpm 3 fase, 1HP engine.
http://www.wikkelbedrijfkeizer.nl/im...520(klein).jpg
Have been communicating with the dealer of the engine a lot and we came to the same conclusion that this would be sufficient for my needs. These industrial engines are powerful enough for the manner that I work in, and I can't stop it on a normal grinding so plenty of power for my use.
A frequencything to regulate the RPM's from 0 to 3000RPM
http://www.indumex.nl/winkel/image/c...-1-500x500.jpg
Neat, do you have 3 phase electrical?
No, 1 phase, but the regulator has 230v 1 phase in, and gives 230v 3phase out from 0 to 120Hz :)
Yep, my grinder does the same...single phase in, three phase output
Not much,just a simple brush handle,right to left,left to right,white streaked buff horn,desert ram horn spacer,Ivory spacer,desert ram spacer,More Buff.

Love to see the result of that :)
Here's what is on my "to do" list:

First step: polish 'er up.
Next challenge: Hone out the chip.
Those chips are on the fence between breadknifing and honing. Best of luck brother. Can't wait to see how you attacked the challenge

Scales are broke... So ebony Scales are the future....
Be carefull you don't get to daylight, Chev! :D
I am on some thicker stuff. Henkels 45 from the pile. Finally saw it! Put away wet and has a good ring on the front tip. Will sand a bit! ;) Some old carved bone scales long enough to hold this blade will be neat. I will go with silver domes, big and little with lead wedge and pinned with bronze rod. I will enjoy this one for years! :) (prolly gonna take years to finish! )

I'm hand sanding an I.Barber 7/8 stub-tail blade, that's been sitting (with other "naked" blades) in a box for the past five years. It's the first one I've ever done by hand (always used my corded Dremel), and what a PITA!
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...01-front-c.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/.../01-rear-c.jpg
I began conservatively -- with a high grit (1800), which did nothing -- and then worked my way down to 400 grit, before deciding to go rock-bottom, with 150 grit wet/dry paper (WD40, not H2O). There's still some discoloration and minor pitting present, but even though it's massively thick, I didn't want to "excavate", so I followed protocol and alternated N-S/E-W as I moved up in grit size. I've got about six hours invested -- 150, 220, 360, 500, 600, 800, and 1000 grit -- and will continue tomorrow with 1200, 1500, 1800, 2000, 2500, and 3000-grit paper; then on to Micro-Mesh. I'm glad this is a hobby, not a livelihood. I have no idea what I'll do for scales; I've been thinking about faux tortoise-shell, but I've never made scales before, either.

That's a lovely stubby you got there. I would love to see it when you are finished. I have a John Barber and it brings a smile to my face every time I use it!!!

I know... it's like JimmyHAD often says: "Polishing a turd." I'm still surprised that 150-grit sandpaper didn't do the trick with the defects.
It's been a long long time since I last completed a restore, so I have finally stolen some time to work on a few of the 'easier' blades I had on the bench.
First up is a nice 6/8 Taylor's Eye Witness 'The 3000' - an interesting Sheffield blade with a uniquely 'Japanese' feel to it. It will be wearing some new black horn scales (not pictured) that are 99% finished, just need to be thinned out a little (currently around 3.7mm thick, going for 3mm).
Next is a nice little 9/16 Klas Törnblom that will also wear black horn - the scales are done, (the ones above the blade) just need to get a final polish on the blade.
The next blade down is a Genco 'Honor' - it's original bakelite(?) scales had shrunk to the point where the blade hit the wedge, so I made some new honey horn scales by tracing the originals, albeit longer (Shown below the Honor). Stupidly though I didn't account for the vertical shrinkage of the original scales curve, so the heel of the blade sticks out when the blade is mocked up in place. looks like I'll be making another set for this blade!
Finally I have a 6/8 Gebrüder Korte 'Trademark' - the original scales were in the process of eating the steel (cell-rot) so I have made some new ones from honey horn. The originals had some nice bolsters on the wedge end, not sure if I will attempt to affix them to the new scales though, we'll see.
Look out for the finished razors! Hopefully they won't take too many years ;-)

Now, on to the Micro-Mesh @ 3200, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12000 grits. But first, a late brunch followed by some reading about How To Use these "Soft Touch" abrasive pads.
No! I'm not going to do that... use the Micro-Mesh, that is. It seems the MM grits do not correspond to the "normal" 3M sandpaper grits (see here, for a grit comparison chart). Back in this 2009 thread -- "3M wet dry vs. micro-mesh grits" -- experienced SRP players opined that even the MM 12000-grit pad left scratches on a mirror finished blade.
OK; time to eat. :D
I'm working on some spalted pecan scales to replace the acrylic scales I made last year on my WM Elliot. So far they look nice. No pictures yet but I should have it pinned together today. :) y'all do some nice work!
Today I attached the handles to a kitchen knife for a colleague (no pics because it is clamped in the vise).
I ground 3 post-HT razor to the point where they pass the thumb nail test. Thhose are now ready to finish grinding.
And I heat treated 5 niolox kitchen knives and a smiling wedge razors.

Better get cracking I s'pose.
