Beautifull.what is a yarn bowl?
A conversation piece. Something you yarn about.
Seriously though, you hold yarn in it while knitting.
Yup, exactly. Pull the yarn through the hole, and while they knit or crochet the ball tumbles and stays in one spot. The best design would be for the bowl to taper closed again at the top, but this is the style she had wanted. Most are made from pottery. The more beautiful are made from wood..........IMO :)
and I thought it was like a talking stick but you had to hold the bowl & spin the yarn for it to be believed LOL
Haha! I know what Pixel is going to be making! Pretty easy to make. If you can turn a bowl, you can make one of these. Used a coping saw for the slot, maybe for the next one I'll give the jigsaw a try. It burned me up a bit to cut that slot in such a nice bowl but..... had to be done.
Well I got it spinning today. Give me a week to make sure it stays running true and then come on up. I only have an 8" contact wheel but will be getting more soon now that it's running. PM coming.
Nice- I'd like to see that! Keep me informed :)
Today's work. I did the rough work and heat treating during the week, and today the final grinding. Again I didn't get to do everything I had wanted to because I had to drive the kids this morning.
This one needs a bit of extra work to straighten the spine line and smooth the tail stub. Other than that it was ready. The holes were a bit of a frivolous idea. I thought it would go well with a round point.

For this one I chose a French point. It has a modest humpback and a sunken thumbnotch. Instead of a moneky tail I made a very thin stub.
Attachment 158915
This one is based on my regular monkey tail, but more slender and flowing, and longer even.
Attachment 158916
My standard monkey tail, but with jimps.

Love your work Bruno, all of these blades are top notch! Can't wait to pay for mine this weekend. Thanks again for your hard work, professionalism and understanding!
Yes, I made then.
.. what I've been working "today" (give or take a day) is:
a) I have to make a few wooden rings (I haven't been doing any for a few months) so I just drilled them out (I laminated few days ago,..) thery're going to be wallnut on 1 side, veneer in between and maple, doussie or roxinho on the other, I kind of mad 1 to the 50%, I did't manage to do much because of a "b"

b) I'f ve bought an ERN Ator some months ago, it had a cracked (and reglued) scale, and was held together with a brass microfasteners hex-head scre.. so I decided I'd try to make a rescale, after some thought I decided to do it in ebony and camel bone, sort of adding a little value to it. Since it has a special form I decided I'll try and make scales lookalike,..
I used a copying machine (that a colleague made for himself) to do a rough outlines of letters, and partly cleaned them today, leaving enough "meat" for final shaping of the letters... it turned out to be a time eater :D ... I know it doesn't seem much but (and it probably wouldn't be for a trained carver) it took a lot of work..
ERN Ator (just in case)

So, I finally decided to break-down and make scales out of some petrified wood pieces I've had out in the garage getting more petrified. Here they are after securing them to dark horn. More work ahead.

that is a very large pile of ivory
I will start working on this one but first I need to decided between my available materials: horn, bone, lacewood, our amber plexiglassAttachment 159573Attachment 159574
Part 1 of todays work. I've also made one of those big meat choppers with curvy monkey tail (which is still cooling down slowly in the fire to anneal) and a long vegetable knife which is still in the oven, tempering for the 3d time while clamped in order to remove a slight warp.
3 razors made from scratch today and heat treated. All are 7/8.

This is new filework I did, trying out some files I nought at a flea market. NOS Nicholson files. Excellent quality for a dollar apiece. :D The pattern is inspired by Something I saw on a Robert Williams razor a long time ago, though I have to say it doesn't hold a candle to the original
Attachment 159745
2 Japanese style razors with western grind. Also heat treated.
Attachment 159744
A stainless kitchen knife made from niolox steel (Also called SB1 I thought). Heat treated.
Attachment 159743
Bruno, you never cease to amaze! That file work is stunning.
Today reground a busted Bengal (1/4" crack 1/4 " from the toe)
The other day did 12 razors on the buffer, now have to find time to do scales.
Made 2 paddle strops.
Still have to put scales on a Spiderco Mule Team, and Spiderco Bushcrafter
Have to hone my Husqvarna Hatchet, it still has the factory "edge" on it.
Have to hone 7 razors till Monday (not looking forward to this one right now :( )
Part 2 of yesterday's work.
One of those 10/8+ choppers. Foring went better than last time, except my forge is really disintegrating. Time to build a better one. I'm starting to get a feel for how to transform a piece of stock into a blade. I know, because I feel I am more in control of the process, and the steel is starting to do what I want it to. The last half inch of the toe is for removing because that is where I chiseled it from the stock.
Attachment 159785
Another niolox kitchen knife for chopping vegetables. This one is longer (12" or so)

Looking good Bruno
