How does one find a restorer?
Hello everyone.
I recently stumbled across a big Wade & Butcher The Celebrated Hollow Ground (you can check it out here), and I'd like to have it professionally restored. I've been perusing the SRP forums, and see some gorgeous work, but I have no idea of how to proceed.
What's the etiquette in this situation? Does one approach a restorer whose work appeals to you, or do you put the project up for 'bids'? Any advice will be appreciated!

Check the member services section of the classifieds. I wouldn't think that bids would be very fair considering that different folks will have somewhat different methods and access to materials so I probably would just approach someone based on what I have seen of their work and how well they will communicate with me but, that's just how I am. The guys here all do awesome work and will be more than happy to work with you to make sure that the final product is what you are after. I also looked at a ton of the threads in the Gallery to see which finishes and all that I like before hand so that I had some idea of what I wanted...

What they said. The member services in the classifieds or you could also check out "Show & Tell" forum, and judge from the work displayed. If I were to recommend a particular restorer it would be just IMHO and might not be who the next guy would recommend. The fairest way is for each of us to view the work displayed and make our own decision.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For some it's a business, others a hobby. Turn around times will vary. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanked: 1371If someone's work appeals to you, send them a PM.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
