    Default Buck Knife Razor

Hey everyone, I'm venturing back into my straights and got an idea last night. I have a buck 112 blade left over from a knife I rebuilt a while back and am thinking about making a Japanese style razor from the blade. It's an old 2dot 440c blade from the late 70's. My question is, do y'all think this steel will work for a razor? Old school buck knives are great steel and I'm just curious if y'all have any pros or cons for me.

Just looked at my Buck 112 and I am having a hard time seeing enough metal there to make a normal sized straight from.

So I've changed my mind on using the buck blade. Mainly because I cant find it. So instead, I'm making one from a Nicholson file. I've already got it shaped out and the hollow grind is almost complete. So I guess it isn't a real deal Japanese straight. More like a eastern/western hybrid. I'm thinking about putting walnut on the handle but I'm not sure if I have enough.

Good luck with the file. Looks like it's taking shape.

Alright. Here it is. The handle is some leftover teak from a slingshot I built a while back. The only issue is that the file was a little thinner than a standard straight so my bevel turned out fairly acute. Beacause the file still is so hard, the edge was brittle and chipped some. I ended up using three layers of tape to hone it but so far it's pretty good. It shaves decently so I need to work it a little more I think. If y'all have any suggestions for me, please tell me. I like this style of razors lot
