Thanked: 60Pearl King - Cleaned Up
Picked this guy up cheap from ebay, wanted to try cleaning it up without killing the etching/plating. Clearly not a spotless finish since I was afraid I'd kill the plating. The scales were very warped and the blade wouldn't fit into the scales without pivoting the (loose) wedge. I was able to straighten the scales out, but the blade still doesn't center just right. Nothing amazing here, but figured I'd share this evening's project.

Very nice. I am surprised you were able to clean up around the gold wash as well as you did without removing it.

Thanked: 60Thanks for the comments. I taped over the goldwash and etching for the initial clean up, then took it off and very lightly touched it up with 2k paper and a bit of mother's polish very lightly applied with my finger and wiped away. Then I tried to blend the slight edges that had formed around the tape.
