Thanked: 1Crack in blade
I purchased an ebay razor that had a very slight chip near the tip. I was sharpening this out when i discovered the blade was cracked about 1/16th to 1/8th inch from the end. I was wondering if I could just grind off the end to eliminate the crack? Just use a hand grinder and go slow?

Thanked: 1That was what I was prolly gonna do anyway just thought I would ask. I have picked up a few to play with lately. I will prolly give it a shot when I get some time just for fun. I have the tools shouldnt take but a few minutes. Cut in from the back as to not heat up the edge or chance taking out the temper. Not that I paid much for the thing I just like little challenges. Thanks

If it's not deep, or pretty close to the end, I can take it out for you. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Thanked: 1Thanks Joe I may send you something in the future, but I think Im gonna give it a try on my own I have Bill's restoration CD coming and the crack is just the very very tip maybe less than 1/16 from the end. I was just gonna grind this off slowly or cut it with a diamond dremel wheel slowly. I guess I will go through the CD first to see what there is on the matter when it arrives. I think this one is salvageable. Seems to take and edge quick using my knife stones I have it to where I can slice one hair at a time from my arm once I get the norton I think it would be a good razor not that I would know but call it intuition from someone who has sharpened lots of other things. Just gotta work out that crack running up the tip. I was rounding off the tip slowly on a diamond stone when i noticed it. Most likely occured whenever the point on the tip was chipped off. Well im rambling. Thanks for your offer and to everyone for offering up so much great information for newbies.

Thanked: 4If it was me, I'd probably cut off the tip using my Foredom or cordless Dremel with a submerged diamond wheel. The important part of the cut-off is near the edge. You don't want to screw with the temper/hardness in that area.

Thanked: 1Yeah thats what i was gonna try I would just have to cut into the spine a touch and it would pop that little sliver right off. The crack is nice and straight right up to the spine. Just have to smooth the sharp edges a little on a diamond stone after that. Thanks

If it´s a cheap fleabay special then go for it. I had a nice Clauss that I didn´t want to ruin that I sent to Bill Ellis with a similar problem. He shortened the blade and modified the scales to fit for me and now it´s one of my top shavers.

Thanked: 1Yeah I dont think it is anything special from what I have learned so far. It says CRH special on one side and HH Grinding company Cleveland OH Made in Germany. So I am gonna give it a shot this week once I track down my Dremel that is evading me at the moment.
