I agree with finding thinner metal liners... much easier than thinning them yourself. You could always glue the liner to the wood, pin the wedge into the scales, do final fitment/sanding then stain and seal.
Just another way to skin the cat.
Waiting for epoxy to finish setting up, didn't clamp points good enough so it didn't hold so had to re-epoxy the brass to the wood wedge....gave up on aluminum and brass will look good anyways so oh well...stupid ocd

Yay hobby lobby had some thinner sheet metals! Now I can layer my wedge like I wanted
Thinned out the scales...pretty sure part of the issue was the thickness of the scales and not only my wedge.
Brass in .005 and .015"
Aluminum in .016 and .032"
Copper in .025"
