Default fixing up an old thomas turner hollow ground

from a few razors that i've picked up that needed a refresh, i decided to try fixing up the thomas turner with broken ivory scales.
i kept the scales so that i may repair them sometime, but i've ordered new material for the replacements.

so i went over it with mothers metal polish and a powerball to get it to shine again.

i did a bit of sanding with 800 and 1200 grit paper, which got a lot of the pitting taken care of, then polished it again.
theres very light swirls on account of the sanding, and i'm not sure how is best to remove them. i'm open to ideas, so feel free to chime in.
heres where i'm at now, you can sort of see the swirls in these pictures.

Nice looking blade in decent condition well worth the effort. Looks like you got a good start too.

wet sand. so use whatever grit dry, then with wd-40 or similar, progress up to 2K or so. more if you can. then steel wool with polish and then just polish. Being as you are in the big smoke you should be able to easily find all that you seek for supplies.

i spent a bit of time tonight wet sanding it like crazy, then polishing it. got all the swirls out, now it shines like crazy.
what does the steel wool do?
i'll see if i can get some 2000 grit and the steel wool and give it another once over.

If you are going to use steel wool with the polishing paste go for the 0000 grade or finer.

Wow! That's looking beautiful! Do you think the edge is salvageable?

It's hard to say. I haven't restored an edge before either. So we'll see!

If you do it right and carefully, removing those chips on the edge should only cost you some blade width. Get that done and she should hone up nicely. If you are looking for 0000 steel wool Crappy Tire used to carry the different grades.

As Bob said or most paint and hardware stores, unless of course the issue is getting there. I can't help with scheduling. You can go straight to polish on a rag, it just takes a little more rubbing. For the final polish cheap micro fiber cloths work good. Looking good.
