    Default Horn Scale straightening

Finally, I found a really simple way to lengthen the short scale without unpinning and so on. The drier the scales the easier the process!

Wax or oil the blade to prevent corrosion.

Place the short scale side onto a damp washcloth for a few hours. Check it about every hour or two. A badly bent scale may take a day or more. The water absorbed will add the length need to even them out.

The scales took a while to absorb the greater moisture on the long side. I found this true when I had a new rescale lying on its side by the sink for a couple weeks before I remodeled my shave area. Didn't think about reversing the process till yesterday!..DUH

I would suppose that the packing of the long scale in a powder like talc or baking soda may reduce its water content. Or may be a heat gun to shorten it. I haven't tried it yet.

Two old razors done so far and a coat of neetsfoot to seal. It took about 8 hours on the cloth to do the job and both razors had been out of line by almost 3/16ths of an inch to start.

Have fun and enjoy the better centered blades!

It may take a few sessions over a while but one of my razors scales moved a 3/16ths" at the wedge in about 8 hours and has moved back about less than a quarter of that after a day in >10%humidity.
