    Question New eBay Special

I just purchased this eBay Special -- "J.S. Krause" on the blade, "Will Inspection" on the scales with an image of a bear.

Can anyone tell me if this is a decent razor, or anything about the brand?

From the pictures, does it look ok? I am a little concerned about the last 1/8th inch of the toe, as it sort of curves upward toward the spine. The razor seems quite old -- the box that came with it indicates patents in 1881 and 1889

Let me know what you think.

I'm not familiar with the brand but it looks like a nice razor.

Does look pretty sweet. I like the spine.

The smile doesn't look that bad, better a smile than a frown. I'm not too sure how to assess hone ware on a spine when it's shaped like that but the bevel seems to be pretty nice and even.

    Default the bear

That looks a lot like the logo for "T. HESSENBRUCH" (sometimes written as "T. HESSEN-BRUCH") i like these razors... they shave rather nicely... i cracked a blade with a dremel a few weeks ago and had to get a second which was not as nice as the one i trashed.

    Man, good eye!

I looked on the tang and indeed it is a T Hessenbruch. Any idea on what era these blades are from?

It is that brand....or at least the scales are. Is there a match in brand between the tang label and the scales? These are great shavers and a quality brand. I have noticed that many of these blades came with a name (owner?) etched on the blade...

Great spine work on this one!

Default scales and tang seem to match

After seeing the scales i noticed the standing bear on the tang in hte first picture but could not make out all the letters.

and yes they are great shaver... that one in the link earlier is all cleaned up and shaving... wish i had original scales though.
