Thanked: 0H. Eicker and Söhne Resto
Hello everyone. So I decided to take the plunge. After getting straight shaves from my favorite Barber over the years I decided it was the only way to go for a clean shave. Without going into much more, I have acquired a vintage razor from a local antique shop in my town.
I searched for a few blades scattered around the place and came upon this "H. Eicker & Söhne, Biedermeier 42 4/8". Picked it up for $35, hoping that's a decent price for this razor. Has a fair amount of patina on the blade itself and some rust on the tang from the setting pin to the end of the tang. My question is, while I would like to preserve/restore this razor and also use it for shaving, how should I go about honing such a blade?
I am going to grab all the essentials: strop with linen back, chromium oxide, proper shaving cream etc.
I have looked at Norton's water stones for the honing and sharpening.
Any advice would be appreciated. I will post detailed pictures in a few minutes.
