    Default removing pins with dremel

    ok dumb rookie question. Is it possible to remove pins with a dremel? I don't have a big work space, and smaller tools would be much easier.

    it is entirely possible, I'd suggest a very small burr to start the hole and a drill bit about 1/3 the dia of the pin. (thanks Bill )

    you just need to be VERY carefull and take your time. That IS if you want to reuse the scales.

    Codicil to the previous post;

    There are least two reasons to heed that advice.
    1. Larger bits will tend to 'travel' off a center punch more than small bits. It's simply geometry. The smaller bits sit deeper into the depression and have more chance to dig in on entry.
    2. A second concern is the heating of the pin which can melt the surrounding plastic scale material. You may be just beginning on the pin when you notice the plastic adjoining the whole turn into a melt. Do not want.

    Puncture a small piece of masking tape and put it over the pin. That will protect the surrounding area. I don't remember who told me to do this, might have been Bill.

    Things usually get a lot uglier before they get pretty again. Think of it as you taking the ugly duckling and turning it into a swan or something along those lines.

    blasphemy?

    There is no blasphemy in taking something that looks like it's ready for the trash and resurrecting it into a delightfull bit of shaving kit.

    Think of it more as a rescue mission. (and a RELATIVELY inexpensive hobby )
