I didn't know they did this: wedgless antique scales.
I bought an old WB off eBay and it had broken horn scales. I cut the pins in it thinking that I might save the double shouldered domed washers and in taking a closer look I realized there was no wedge. The scales had been cut at the end to form a wedge without additional material.
How common is this? Anyone use this method on new scales?

It was relatively commond back in the days, from what I have seen mostly on horn scales.
I haven't tried it yet myself, but I can't seen no reason why not. I'm sure someone have triedNeed help or tutoring? Check out the .

I'm glad you mentioned this as I was thinking of trying it on the next set of horn scales I make just to do something a little different. Curious to see if anyone has experiences/tips to share.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I have a Worcester razor that has exactly the same thing. A half wedge 'moulded' onto each scale half and then pressed together meeting in the middle.

Thanked: 1184I have done it once. Not impossible, go easy on shaping when you get close. Go to far and you might as well start making a wedge :<0)
Still a little dirty from polishing sorry.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Here's another I just took apart but slightly different; the "wedge" part of the scales is only on the one side.
The scales are in great shape, I didn't damage them during removal. I find them.... nice but kitschy. Does anyone want them?
