Default Porter Cable 8" Bench Grinder

I got it from Lowes today, I was going to try my hand at buffing some blades out. My SWMBO got me a set of 38 blades from the pawn shop where she works at for Valentines day, she says it was a collectors, but I'm not to sure of that. So I inventory all my blades and have a few the are good "practice" ones to try just on the buffing (not grinding/greaseless). I research the grinder, it's variable speed, 5/8" arbor, 8" grinding wheels, so I can run 8" wheels at 2000 RPM and 6" even slower. So they have the 6" buffing wheels there with the 5/8" holes to I pick up a firm and a few medium ones. I get the grinding wheels off without and issue and now I have this 1/2-3/4" gap that needs to be filled in order for the nut to snug up.

How do you guys deal with this? If there just a part I need to pick up or am I stacking washers up between the flanges and the buffing wheels? I figure there had to be a simple solution out there.

    Hello
I have the same grinder. What I did was make a spacer to take up the space (just a glorified washer is all it is). I also made a mandrel to fit a drum sander.

Thanks, that helps, better than the stack of old misc. washers I was trying to use. I found a similar spacer on Amazon and Fastenal. Just look for '5/8" Shaft Collar' in your search engine and look for an inside diameter of 5/8", I figure stainless or carbon steel would be the best. The shaft did measure at exactly .625 with my digital calipers. It looks like the 1/2" wide ones will work. I will report back when I get them in.

Climax Metal C-062-S Shaft Collar, One Piece, Set Screw Style, Stainless Steel, 5/8" Bore, 1-1/8" OD, 1/2" Width, With 5/16-18 Set Screw: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

    I just stacked up washers.
Mine works fine... NO issues (so far)
