I bought a box of pins at CDN Tire. This is a good reminder for me to take the snips to one of them to make sure they're brass through and through

hehe, for some reason I can see someone tapping away, patiently waiting for the end to dome over, while their hair turns gray

I wasn't that patient and quickly saw the different colour of the center of the pin, and I'm almost totally grey anyway

The color was just right and it peened over easily. The only issue I have is that they're a bit thinner than 1/16" brass rod stock.

I've been looking for rods/washers too. It seems hard to find 1.6mm (1/16") stainless steel rod in the UK, brass seems much easier to source from modelling suppliers.

I was wondering about these for alternatives, would either be acceptable?

    1.6mm SS panel pins.

    1.6mm 316L arc welding rods.

I'm sure I've seen Maestro Livi using welding rod for pinning on one of his DVDs, I'll have to watch it again but he was tapping a rod with a hammer to crack off the coating on the outside - leaving a steel rod.

Take a steel nail, cut off the spike and try to peen it over before buying SS pins/rods.
