New antique shop wade
Some mid progress photos on todays antique shop acquisition. Appears to be about a 6/8 blade was had some patina not too bad, some pretty nasty chipping on the edge that needed to be honed away after a brief polish with some Maas.
Still have some gunk to clean off from the price tag, but scales appear to be horn. Honed from 1k through 12k nani then a trip to the strop but will probably have to start over due to micro chipping fingers crossed that the edge comes around. Had it passing the hht no problem but gnarly on the skin. Will have to take a look at it under the scope.
anyhow this is the progress so far.
cheers

Holy heck,
I figured there would be a bit of chipping, but got it under the scope today and now I really understand why it raked the skin on the shave test...
read up on chip prone blades, going to try honing starting with the 4k instead of the 1k this time. I don't think I was over honing but it's possible. Hope that it can be solved!"One must always choose the lesser of two weevils." - Cpt. Jack Aubrey

Interested to find out how it worked starting at the 4k. What scope are you using?
