Great suggestion on the gold leaf paste but the removal technique is likely to wipe away the leaf in the shallow embossing. Is there a way to do it that maintains a better "depth control?"

High grit Sandpaper on a flat surface, I use a Wooden Popsicle stick and time

Or as Glen Says, many ways to do it dependant on the depth of the embossing.

Is there anything wrong with safety orange G10 Ghost scales and a mirror finish with some stabilized abalone inlays?

For some, nothing is wrong, than one has to decide on a true restoration or a radical makeover.

Without gold plating the whole of the blade and using lapis lazuli as the wedge?? Are you crazy???

I can't find this product, checked the local Michaels and both of them online and the closest thing looks like a Rub 'n Buff gold leaf wax, which I don't think is right. I know it needs something more a brassy yellow to look right. Anyone have a brand name and source?

Use the rub n buff. I use it on glass and acrylic after engraving and it will stand up to dish washer use. they lots of colors.

What Tim said, it works well, if the embossing is deep enough to hold the material
