Im looking at getting one of these

Steamed towels for face prep and after shave, plus can sterilise towels and razors. Not cheap per se, but a bit of luxury and functionality combined.

    I guess I'm a purist!

Blades get a Barbicide soak after initial cleanup/restoration
Face prep includes a washcloth run under hot tap water

No problems to date. Haven't had a blade give me Ebola yet and the tap water gets too hot for my hands so it's sufficient to heat up whiskers.

Hopefully you don't have any celluloid scales on your razors.

At one point, I bought the high end Sonic Care that had a UV sterilization cabinet for the brush head. It (the cabinet portion) eventually died and I saw little benefit to paying hundreds for another.

The point is completely valid for daily use but fails a bit when you take the analogy further and consider buying and using used tooth brushes.
