Default Can't really call this a First Restoration

This was my first attempt at straight razor restoration, but the initial blade was in such good shape, I can't really call it a restoration, all I did was clean it up a little and hone the thing - it is a fantastic shaver, and I got lucky on the honing. I give you my Bengall 5/8.

    Tell me what you think.

    Oh nice work!

I love Bengals, the steel seems to be great, they polish up well and more often than not hold an edge and shave really well.

    Congradulations.

    Default How does it shave?

I have to say it is in my top four right now; next to a gorgeous Revisor, Damon's Black Cat, a brand new massive Friodur I just got from Lynn, and this delicate Bengall.

It still amazes me how each cutting instrument demonstrates it's own personality, this Bengall is in every respect, simple no-nonsense understatement. A restrained elegance, whereas the 6/8 Friodur I shaved with this morning is a thick necked cleaver of a weapon, wickedly sharp and not a little intimidating to shave with.

Same reason to be, very different experiences. I am working on a notched Henckels twin with the old dark scales that should work up nicely, but is altogether different in feel again; heft, balance, steel - you name it. Just a fun addititon to the whole experience.

Now if I could just consistently get and keep these things honed!

    Thanks for the replies!

Every razor has it's own personality.

I have an old Invicta that only needs to see the hone to be sharp again and seems to guide it's self.

On the other hand I have a 3/8 Heart Ring that almost tells me to GGF when honing but will give the smoothest of shaves if I really concentrate.
