    a small piece of advice since it sounds like your first rescaling project, when pinning the knife into the scales, make sure the hole is slightly bigger then the pin itself, about 50% of my first rescaling projects ended in failure on the last moment as the wood split while pinning. the pin itself thickens ever so slightly when hitting the top with a hammer. if the original fit was to tight you can ruin the scales this way

    Thanks for the heads up on the hole size bram. I'm going to get the wood hardener. Then finish with epoxy. Going to be a bit before I get all my stuff together. Will post pics if it comes out semi respectable....if not mourn for my poor dead scales. Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
