Peeved
Ok so I have started my journey into straight razor shaving and seem to have nothing but problem after problem. I bought a vintage razor and made a swap which was very nice but I wanted to get something a bit more "upscale" . So I went to Ebay and got myself a Dovo! Great right?? well I sent it out to be honed so I can do all this the right way and was like a kid on Christmas morning when I got it back!! So I get it into some antiseptic so I can use it and go to dry the blade and my scales fall off right at the pin to the blade!!! Needless to say I'm a bit peeved about the whole deal. So I don't blame anyone for the scales being cracked. The blade is nice and sharp ( I used it without the scales ) and I want to keep it. My thing is I would LOVE to have stainless scales for this shaver. I have seen a Dovo on their site with them so I know it's an option that's available!!! Any ideas of how to go about this? maybe someone willing to give it a shot? All ideas are welcomed!!

Stainless scales are going to be heavy, really screwing up the balance on the razor.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Thanked: 4826I'm of a similar opinion to Splashone, but if that is what you really want then follow edhewitt to the classifieds. The off balance really makes stropping a chore.

There are some that pop up on ebay. Old medical razors that used to be used to shave the surgery site and sterilized for the next prro schmuck.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Well all the basis have been covered but one. You could try making your own. If you have an Ace hardware store nearby, they'll have everything you'll need.
Sorry about your luck BTW.David

I put a set of the aftermarket Dovo stainless scales (I think I got them at Classic, but I'm not sure) on a Genco Gold Seal and they really aren't cumbersome, even on that very light-weight blade. The Dovo pakkawood scales I put on an identical Gold Seal definitely throw off the balance for both stropping and shaving, leading me to tend to skip over that otherwise excellent razor when I'm picking out one to use. So steel is not necessarily a deal-breaker.

Thanked: 4826yes length weight and bulk all make up the balance for sure. I couldn't agree more. I have been down that trail, and there have been a few that have been too small as well.

Try to post a WTB (Want To Buy) ad for some stainless Wapienica scales. Most people with Wapienica razors remove the scales because they are too heavy. there should be plenty available. That said, aluminium would be a nicer choice. Or titanium. Like stainless, but lighter.

Some great info thank you!! I just wish my email would keep up with all the replies I get the idea of it being out of balance due to weight and failed to mention that I still have the old pieces, I could definitely go to my local HD or hardware store and make a set of my own! I also saw a cool looking set of scales on a shavette on Ebay and contacted the seller for a small fee I can have them in a few days. I will have to ponder and look around on here more before I make up my mind!!
Once again thank you for the input!!! AaronAaron
