Greaseless compound shield
I don't know if anyone has ever done this or come up with a better solution for this problem. I live in an apartment and have done my restorations in a second bedroom unfortunately. One major issue was getting greaseless compound everywhere. Here is a cheap and easy solution I came up with.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

Thanked: 3215I use a cardboard cereal box with one side cut out, the front and a V cut on one side to allow it to wrap around the shaft. The box covers a bit more than half the wheel so it does not interfere with buffing.
Really you only need them when loading wheels.
The nice thing about the cardboard box is if for some reason it snagged a wheel it would just fly away or apart.
Keeps the greaseless off the walls.

See I was thinking the same thing but I figured this would last longer. Unfortunately it was a pain to cut thus the ghetto rig but hey it's effective!

Whatever works to keep the skid marks off the ceiling and walls is good! I use a seriously low tech setup - a loose piece of cardboard I hold above the wheel when applying compound... though my garage door has quite a few skid marks on the inside where it rests above the buffers when open. Good thing my wife hasn't noticed yet.

I have to say that I don't understand the solution - how do you apply the compound? When I apply it - despite holding an ex cereal box, most of the compound comes off the front and cakes my shirt and hair.
I would be very interested in something that works.

Greaseless compound shield
Oh my girl wanted to kill me the first day I got that buffer! Well with that tote I just go in the open side with the compound then work the other wheel while it dries. Move the tote to the other side and repeat. Better than my previous solution of hanging a plastic sheet every time (what a pain!) I'm aching for a garage or basement soon!

Well when I'm not murdering people I'm restoring razors. Either hobby, I hate red splashes all over my white walls.

I have seen the plastic sheets used for the Salad Sisters......just saying........
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
