    Default Working Ram's Horn

Has anyone tried working a raw ram's horn into scales. I see horns on ebay for a reasonable price. Would it be the same process used for buffalo horn?

The trick is finding that wonderful rams horn in lengths you can use. It usually always comes short for scale making. If you found a place to get it in workable lengths, jump on it.

Thats true, most I have found are only about 5 in. long because of the acute curve of the horn.
Thet are also mostley hollow and not very thick,JME

This is what I was looking at.
14 1 2 inch Sheep RAM Horn for Horn Carving Taxidermy to Make Shofar 8765 | eBay

It looks big enough to get a couple of scales after it is split and flattened. Are you saying it may be too thin?

Cannot answere that.Only Ram I have worked with Is wild desert Bighorn which is very thick.
The Ebay horns that seller has are from domestic sheep. At that price is maybe worth a gamble, just make sure the horn is well seasoned (takes about a yr).
