    Default Scales on Restoration

    Gentlemen,

I have a few razors that I have picked up that I am working on the blades, but frankly I am wary of attempting to remove the scales one is Goldedge and I don;t want to bung up the scales removing them. The other is a Henckels twinworks and the dark scales are very tight, and I just don't want to screw them up.

So, what is there any advice for restoring the blades while the scales are on?

ALSO, while I am asking - the Goldedge scales have split, it looks like a layer of the plastic has come up in the liner, when the blade rests when it is closed...any suggestions for fixing this problem? OR, if I take the scales off, has anyone every tried to transplant the inlaid brass designs from a celluloid scales into a wood or acrylic scale? I figure that the metal is too thin, and could not be successfully removed from the original scales, but it would be cool as*&^% if they could be lifted. Just curious.

You will have to scrap the DD scales. Vlad would be good enough to transplant them but unless the Duck is MINT, it's not worth the effort. If you want to keep the scales on, use the wire brush attachment for hard to reach areas.

Hey, thanks for the speedy reply.

The DD blade is in nice shape, but the split is not like a crack in the scales as you would expect from pressure or misuse, what it looks like if if the razor were forced closed and the blade sheared off a split on the inside of the scale, the piece of plastic is a split layer on the inside surface of the scale, strange place and it doesn't look like it was caused from the blade...

I was just curious about transplanting the logos from the scales, you ahve to admit it would be cool.

The gold wash on the tang is only around the pin, all the rest has long since faded on the DD, oh well. Any ideas for scale on restorations?
