    Default Sheffield the celebrated- frown

Hey guys. Looking for some input on the old gal. Its a friend of mines and it has been passed down since his great grandfather and he overheard me talking about restoring razors and asked me if it could be made shave ready.

It was in baaaaaaad shape but said hey nothing ventured nothing gained. I drilled out the pins and went to work cleaning the blade. This is where I've come to a crossroads. It has 2mm + frown at the heel and I don't see much meat left to remove it. I think it can be breadknifed out but just barely. And I'm worried that I'll be right up into the shoulder making honing impossible. Open to any and all suggestions. I need some advice on how to proceed.

If it were me and I really wanted to keep the blade I would get in touch with one of 3 people. Lynn Abrams Max Spreacher or ssixgun. I know there are many more out there that do great work and that do work for the public I just don't know them but these guys are good. if there was more blade heal and toe you could hone it out but these guys will know. good luck

You have to hone the frown out and then reshape the shoulder. There are several threads on how to get the frown out and how to reshape the shoulder IIRC. Bit of a job but not impossible.

OK so I took to this one like a fly to crap. Lol. But I did have a go at it. I scribed the contour of the spine to the edge using the highest point of the frown as my baseline. And then I contoured the heel to get the shoulder out of the way as much as possible and the blade turned out like this.

Then I set about making scales. Now bear with me as this is both my first set using wood first set with ca for a finish and only my second set so far. I went with ipe for its water resistance and then I went with a white liner. I also salvaged the original collar washers. What I ended up with is a cross between a kris-kraft and the blackpearl. I love it. And the guy who gave me the opportunity to restore his razor loves it. So this is it. Please give me feedback and if negative be constructive please.
