So i was trying the newpaper and MAAS and it looks like there was only a faint outline of the etch near the toe. the rest looks to have been removed during honing as it is a wedge and the heel it noticeably more narrow than the toe. With that being the case i think i will be taking this one to as close to a mirror finish as i can. I had a few spots that had rust that was a bit deeper that i expected but not bad.
*Insert deep thought/profound statement here*

Well now you know a little bit more about how the razor looks. You 'might' try just a little 1-2k wet and dry before you drop down, and then the newspaper/mass combo; just to see what happens.
So far I've never gone lower than a 325 wet and dry. And many times a 600 grit will bring a blade to where it's presentable.
It's your razor so work it how it pleases you. You may find that you like it with more of the soul but if you want to get as close to the elusive 'mirror' finish please do!
One word of advice. Don't do what I do and get all excited and forget to take progress pictures!
I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes out!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
