Lead butt spacers
This weekend I disassembled the scaless of my current restoration to use them as a guide for sizing the new scales.
I discovered that the spacer is made from lead.
One of the sellers on ebay claims that lead butt spacers indicate that a razor is made in the 1800's. Is there any truth to this, or was that just a sales pitch?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

There is a good chance that it was sometime around there....but there would be other features which would place the blade in a certain timeframe (Scale material, blade/grind design, pin style, tang features and stamping, etc...). Your older (19th century and earlier) often did use a pewter or lead type metal end spacer.....
Perhaps someone could chime in with exact dates of use?
