Default another damascus in the works

This one will be around 8/8, fileworked spine... more traditional half hollow or better

this is damascus stock I purchased online, 1095/15N20 hammered out on a very cheap anvil, and hollow ground

I need suggestions for the scales though...

    Thoughts anyone?

I would look at a lighter coloured Kirinte, bone, or light horn myself to contrast against the dark steel finish
where did you source the Damascus from?

Good start. I'd suggest regrinding to reduce the width of the bevel. Charlie posted great info on grinding to get a super narrow bevel. You have a very nice piece of steel there that deserves a quality grinding job. Which reminds me, I need to go back and do some regrinding to refine bevels myself. I agree with Substance - a simple, light colored set of scales. Thanks for posting.

I bought the damascus almost 2 years ago from a reputable source, I want to say texas knife works.
I was a bit afraid to grind to narrow due to the etching.
but you're right, a bit thinner might be in order...

IMHO pattern welded steels look best in timber. Preferably a burl. Then an epoxy or CA finish to give it that wet look, protection and bring out the grain.
i save the synthetics for highly polished homogenous blades.
    Just my two bobs worth.
However you go, take your time, be patient, and i am sure you will have a beautiful end result.
