another damascus in the works
This one will be around 8/8, fileworked spine... more traditional half hollow or better
this is damascus stock I purchased online, 1095/15N20 hammered out on a very cheap anvil, and hollow ground
I need suggestions for the scales though...
Thoughts anyone?

I would look at a lighter coloured Kirinte, bone, or light horn myself to contrast against the dark steel finish
where did you source the Damascus from?Saved,
to shave another day.

Thanked: 170Good start. I'd suggest regrinding to reduce the width of the bevel. Charlie posted great info on grinding to get a super narrow bevel. You have a very nice piece of steel there that deserves a quality grinding job. Which reminds me, I need to go back and do some regrinding to refine bevels myself. I agree with Substance - a simple, light colored set of scales. Thanks for posting.

I bought the damascus almost 2 years ago from a reputable source, I want to say texas knife works.
I was a bit afraid to grind to narrow due to the etching.
but you're right, a bit thinner might be in order...

Thanked: 203IMHO pattern welded steels look best in timber. Preferably a burl. Then an epoxy or CA finish to give it that wet look, protection and bring out the grain.
i save the synthetics for highly polished homogenous blades.
Just my two bobs worth.
However you go, take your time, be patient, and i am sure you will have a beautiful end result.
AdamRespectfully,
Adam.
