I would say if you decide to hone the chip out leave the width as is up until shortly before the chip. You couldn't get away with that if it wasn't shoulderless, but it is, and you can. Not sure how it would look aesthetically, but it is worth a try. You can always take more off if you want a uniform profile.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'd send it to one of the Pros here ,,, they will get it up & running.

The other possibility is a heel-out. I've done it with a dremel and all went pretty well.
Best advice, of course, is don't act rashly. Aka, don't do a test shave.

Radius the heel from the chip to the tang.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Well a shave with this one is out of the question as I doubt it would even slice bread right now. I was not even thinking of doing the work myself. I don't hone yet. That is my next AD.... Chev I own a 4/8 also an it is a good shaver. Looks like its going to have to take a trip to one of our masters. Would love to get this one up an going as it is the only inherited straight I have in the collection. An is also the only Twin. Thanks for the advice guys. I was hoping my thoughts were correct in it was savable.
