    Default Question re: rust

I just got a couple of razors from a local antique store, and I am using them to learn how to hone (they were like $7 each). I do have a question. If I can get these American Made Razors shaving, there is some rust on the shank and tang of each blade. How would y'all recommend getting this out of a razor? Steel wool? Sand paper? What grit? Just a question for y'all.

There are lots of threads on this topic in the restoration forum. Depending on the level and type of corrosion you could even clean it off with a rag and some polishing compound like Maas or CLR Metal Clear or you'd need to progress from 120 to 400-1000 for a satin finish (I use 120, 240 and 400 grit flap wheels with a rotary tool) and 2000 plus a polish for a mirror finish.
