I find it hard to believe that all factory new razors are hand peened.Has anyone ever thought of using a rivet squeezer they are used a lot in aircraft manufacturing with very high tolerances could they not be used for repining razors?

Pop rivet would crack the scales. Yes all factory razors are in fact hand peened; they don't use a rod though, it looks like a blunt tipped brad. YouTube dovo factory; you can actually watch the workers doing it, they're unbelievable at how quick they do it without breaking anything.

While this video is in German, it will show how DOVO makes a razor, it's only the basic steps but will also show how DOVO 'Hand Peens' the razors at the factory and it's nothing like anything that those of us do.

No not a pop rivet brass aircraft grade or stainless steel they come with many different head profiles the squeezer has machined dies for what ever you want you adjust the squeezer and get a perfect head every time the tool cost is about 100.00.

The rivet squeezers also expand the outer diameter of the rivet shaft so that the rivet expands to the hole diameter and locks the rivet in place. That would work fine for the wedge end, but not so fine for the pivot end - it would no longer pivot.

I have thought about rivets a few times, but I couldn't get past the fact of cracking scales really easy when you squeeze the rivet to lock it into place. You have to remember that the rivets will expand alot and with something as fragile as what alot of scales are made from it wouldn't take all that much to expand to much and crack the scales. Favory razors use a different style of pins that alot of restorers use. The collars are slightly smaller than the pin and friction lock on the pin with on tap. That is why alot of factory razors will have one side that looks flatter than the other. They don't go into alot of detail like we do. There is a video on youtube that shows how Dovo does it.

I've seen a computer controlled header before that could the job, but it had a ridiculous price tag on it. It might just be cheaper to have a human do it.
