In my experience with gold you keep everything as light and minimal as possible. Just wiping my Goldedge dry with a hand towel and regular handling has worn it down lighter. Keep it clean with a soft towel or tissue. You could try to protect it with something but just wiping it on and off is not good :<0) I had one razor that got wiped out with just windex and a towel. Now, I rubbed it vigorously but it had years of crud on it. Yours may be a little tougher because it is new but I would say if your going to use it regularly it is going to fade no matter what.
